FAQ: The Woman Card[s]

Where is Marie Curie?

Don’t worry, you’re not the only person wondering! This first-edition deck is only focused on American women for now. If this project takes off and we get a lot of support, we are absolutely interested in broadening our scope to a full deck of 52 women and to look internationally. In trying to keep the project to a minimum viable product, we decided to stick with only thirteen women to start. Once we had that limit in place, we thought sticking to only American women made the most sense. Last updated: Thu, Apr 28 2016 12:49 pm EDT

How were the ranks decided?

We decided which women to include totally independent of any rank or hierarchy in mind. Once we had identified the women, we took the time to try to figure out which numbers and ranks corresponded best to each woman. For some, it was pretty obvious. For others, it took a little more research! If you have any suggestions for a better placement, please email us at [email protected]. We are very eager for feedback. You keep talking about 13 women. Is this a 52-card deck?

YES! It absolutely is. In fact, it’s a 54-card deck. Each woman will appear in all four suits. 13 x 4 = 52 + 2 Jokers = 54. For this first-edition set, Zebby is only drawing 13 women. If there is a second edition, it will likely feature 52 different women. Last updated: Mon, May 2 2016 9:49 pm EDT

What happens now that the project is overfunded?

Great question! This is, of course, a phenomenal “problem” to have. The reality, however, is that “overfunded” is a misnomer here. We decided to make these decks the highest quality we possibly could, so every single deck is being sold quite nearly at cost, once you factor in the costs of paying all the processing fees, designing the cards, manufacturing the cards, shipping both from the manufacturer to us and then from us to you, stuffing all the envelopes, etc. Our preliminary calculations look like we’re going to make a profit, but it’s going to be a small profit. This is very much a labor of love. Last updated: Fri, Apr 29 2016 9:42 am EDT

Will proceeds support Hillary Clinton’s campaign?

No. Unfortunately, Kickstarter’s rules explicitly prevent funds raised on their site from going to support political candidates. Last updated: Mon, May 2 2016 9:48 pm EDT

Where should I send my suggestions for women to include in the next deck?

We would love to see them! Please send them to us at [email protected]. We are being a little inundated at the moment, but we’re doing our very best to stay on top of email, and we will respond eventually, even if it takes us a few days! Last updated: Fri, Apr 29 2016 10:14 am EDT

Playing cards aren’t really my thing, but the portraits are awesome. Can I order only prints?

Yes! After the Kickstarter closes, www.thewomancards.com will redirect to a website that will accept orders for only prints. In the meantime, you can email Zach at [email protected] to reserve prints only. Like the cards, we expect that prints will begin to ship in late June / early July. Where are the Native American and Asian American Pacific Islander women??

We know! Choosing only 13 women for the first edition deck was incredibly difficult. As we contemplate a possible second edition deck that would expand to 52 women, making sure that we include Native American women and AAPI women is a priority for us. Last updated: Mon, May 2 2016 9:48 pm EDT

How big are the prints?

The prints are 18 x 24 inches, so they’re decently large. After the Kickstarter closes, we are hoping to have multiple sizes available, but for now, that is all we have!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
